Through energy, persistence, and patience, the Danube broke through stone walls, separating the Carpathians from the Balkans. After entering Romania at Baziaș, the Danube charts one of the most fascinating routes along its 2,860 km journey from its source to its mouth in the Black Sea. This is the Danube Gorge, measuring 125 km, of which 45 km represent the famous "Cazane" (Danube Gorges) section. This part of the gorge, between Dubova and Ogradena, consists of the Great Gorges (4 km long) and the Small Gorges (5 km long), where the Danube is forced to pass between mountains, narrowing to widths between 180-250 m. The area is declared a natural monument in Europe, here you can find the "gorge tulip" and the crag martin, a name proudly shared by Pensiunea Melba, a guesthouse that fits perfectly into these wondrous landscapes.
Access to Pensiunea Melba can be made by boat from Orșova. The area features many forest and local roads, more or less modernized, which delight thrill-seekers – whether mountain bikers or off-road motorcyclists, who are guaranteed an unforgettable vacation. It is not only them who can enjoy the area, but also amateur or professional fishermen, who can fish directly from the guesthouse's specially designed pontoon, as well as professional hunters during officially organized hunting trips (wild boar, deer, etc.).
Last but not least, Pensiunea Melba offers rest and relaxation on the beach set up on the banks of the old river, next to the crystal-clear pool.
